Àlex Mumbrú's Virtus Bologna dominated the first quarter in Munich, building a lead they never relinquished. A devastating 35-point opening quarter on 6-of-9 three-pointers proved decisive as Bayern Munich chased all night without catching up: 87-94 at SAP Garden. The Italians, fresh off a buzzer-beating three from Marcus Carr against Olympiacos, improve to 2-2. Bayern falls to 1-3.

A Demolishing First Quarter

Bayern started well (7-2), but from there it was all Virtus. A 2-18 run put the score at 9-20 in the 7th minute, with Klintman hot from the start and three-pointers falling one after another. The first quarter closed at 21-35.

Bayern Closes In, But Can't Catch Up

Anton Gavel's team responded in the second quarter, led by Oscar da Silva, and got within five (33-38) at the 16-minute mark. But they missed several layups at that crucial moment and went into halftime still down nine (43-52).

After the break, Bayern tried again. Andreas Obst's second three-pointer brought the game to three (52-55) at the 23-minute mark, the closest moment of the night. Virtus answered immediately with a 0-9 run (52-64) and Bayern never got that close again. At the end of the third quarter, 68-75.

Carr Closes the Door

The fourth quarter was even (19-19). Virtus turned the ball over too many times and Bayern had chances to get closer, but a block from Diarra and a three-pointer from Carr, which put the lead at nine with a minute left, sealed the game.

Wendell Moore led Virtus with 20 points, followed by Klintman (15), Carr (13), Alston (11), and Frazier (10). For Bayern, Da Silva and Duane Washington each scored 18, MarJon Beauchamp added 15 points and 9 rebounds, and Rokas Jokubaitis, the former Barcelona player, contributed 8.
