Maccabi Gets First Win Against Milano (97-79)

Maccabi Tel Aviv finally knows what it's like to win this season. After three losses and arriving at matchday 4 as the competition's worst team, Oded Kattash's squad defeated Olimpia Milano 97-79 at the Pionir in Belgrade, where they play their home games this season. They won all four quarters, with Milano unable to get into the game in the final period.

Milano Holds On for Half

Maccabi came out with much more energy and led 20-9 in the first quarter. Milano reacted with a small-ball lineup, with Facundo Bolmaro stealing the ball and pushing the pace, and a 2-9 run got them back in it (22-18). The first quarter ended 24-20.

The script repeated in the second. Maccabi went up nine (49-40), Devon Hall answered with a three-pointer and Milano closed to within four (49-45). At halftime, 51-45.

The third quarter was tight until the final two minutes. There Maccabi strung together a 7-0 run that made it 74-62 with ten minutes to go. It was the decisive blow. In the fourth quarter, Bonzie Colson scored several baskets in a row, the lead reached 16 points at the 34-minute mark and Milano had no answers.

The Difference in the Numbers

Maccabi was much more efficient: 27 of 39 on two-pointers versus Milano's 17 of 31, and 9 of 24 on three-pointers versus 7 of 26. They won the rebounding battle (36-27) and had only 8 turnovers compared to 15 for the Italians. Milano was only better at the free-throw line (24 of 28).

Yam Madar led Maccabi with 17 points and 4 assists, followed by Jaylen Hoard (13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists), Bonzie Colson (13 points and 2 steals) and Roman Sorkin (12). Daniel Theis returned after missing the previous matchday with an ankle injury. For Milano, Moses Wright had 23 points and 8 rebounds, Alec Peters 12 and Devon Hall dished out 9 assists.

"Right now we're not able to play all 40 minutes," Olimpia Milano head coach Peppe Poeta told EuroLeague TV.

Both teams now have one win and three losses.
