Bombshell in the NBA. LeBron James has informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he will not continue with the franchise and will play for another team in the 2026/27 season, according to Shams Charania on ESPN via his agent, Rich Paul.
The decision ends an eight-season stint in Los Angeles, where LeBron won the 2020 championship in the Orlando bubble and became one of the most important figures in the recent history of the Lakers franchise.
According to the report, LeBron wanted to notify the Lakers before the start of free agency as a gesture of respect toward the organization and to allow Rob Pelinka to work with flexibility in planning the market. The Lakers' president of basketball operations and Rich Paul reportedly spoke recently about the plans of the four-time NBA champion.
At 41 years old, James will continue his career in the league and open one of the biggest stories of the summer: discovering what will be the next destination of one of the greatest players of all time. After his stints in Cleveland, Miami, and Los Angeles, LeBron is now preparing for a new chapter away from the team with which he won his fourth championship.
