The Boston Celtics add experience to their backcourt. According to Shams Charania, Mike Conley Jr. has agreed to a one-year deal with the Massachusetts franchise.
Conley arrives from the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he played the 2025-26 season in a reduced role. He averaged 4.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game, shooting 33.5% from the field—numbers far from his peak years but consistent with a more limited function within the rotation.
The move carries both a sporting and historical component. Conley will reach his 20th season in the NBA, becoming only the 14th player in history to achieve that milestone. At 38 years old, he remains a point guard valued for his court vision, leadership, pace control, and experience in competitive locker rooms.
For Boston, this is not a signing aimed at big numbers, but rather to add a veteran point guard capable of running the second unit, protecting the basketball, and providing composure in crucial moments. The Celtics thus incorporate a low-risk piece to strengthen their perimeter depth.
