Minnesota Targets Josh Giddey to Strengthen Backcourt

The Minnesota Timberwolves continue to move in the market with a clear priority: strengthening their backcourt. According to Darren Wolfson, the Minneapolis franchise has Josh Giddey, currently with the Chicago Bulls, among its targets of interest.

The search responds to the need to add another playmaker, especially following the serious injury suffered by Donte DiVincenzo in the playoffs. Minnesota has already been linked with other profiles, such as Derrick White, but the Giddey option appears as a different avenue: less defensive-focused, but with greater size, court vision, and ability to orchestrate offenses.

The Australian comes off a very solid season in Chicago, averaging 17 points, 9.1 assists, and 8.3 rebounds in 32.1 minutes per game, plus 36.4% from three-point range. At 23 years old, his combination of height, rebounding, and offensive playmaking makes him an attractive piece for any team looking for creation from the perimeter.

The big question mark is the Bulls' stance. Giddey is under contract through 2029, with a salary close to $25 million per season, a reasonable figure for his production. That's why Chicago doesn't appear obligated to move him unless it receives a significant offer. The arrival of Bryson Graham to the position of president of basketball operations, however, could open the door to a change of plans.
