Trey Lyles will not continue with Real Madrid. The Canadian player confirmed his departure from the club through an Instagram video, saying goodbye to the Spanish capital after a high-impact season in the EuroLeague.
"Madrid has been great, but it's time," said Lyles, who arrived last summer on a one-year contract and now enters the market as one of the most attractive names of the offseason.
His performance skyrocketed his value. In his first European campaign, the power forward averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in the EuroLeague, also posting a 24-point performance against Olympiacos in the 2026 Final Four final.
Real Madrid maintained interest in re-signing him, but economic demands and Spanish tax regulations complicated any deal without altering the club's salary structure. Lyles, moreover, recently changed agencies and prioritizes a return to the NBA, where he already played 662 games over ten seasons.
Several EuroLeague powerhouses remain monitoring his situation, but the Canadian's primary objective is to compete again in North America. His stint in Madrid comes to an end soon, but he leaves the impression of having been one of the most impactful signings of the club's season.
