MINNEAPOLIS. The Minnesota Timberwolves dominated the Denver Nuggets 113-96 in the NBA playoffs, taking a 2-1 series lead in the first round of the West. Minnesota's defense made the difference once again, with Jaden McDaniels leading the way and Nikola Jokic having a difficult night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves imposed their physicality and intensity from the opening tip. The home team delivered a demolishing first quarter on defense, holding Denver to just 11 points—a franchise playoff record for a single quarter. That start completely set the tone for the entire game.
While the Denver Nuggets struggled to find their rhythm, Minnesota attacked relentlessly at the rim. McDaniels, Donte DiVincenzo, and Ayo Dosunmu led a first half of tremendous energy, punishing Denver's defensive transitions and building constant advantages until reaching a commanding 61-39 halftime lead.
Jaden McDaniels delivered one of his best playoff performances with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The wing also made crucial plays down the stretch, including a three-pointer and a one-handed dunk in traffic that electrified the Target Center.
Coming off the bench, Ayo Dosunmu was brilliant and crucial to the Minnesota Timberwolves' victory with 25 points and 9 assists. Donte DiVincenzo contributed 15 points and 4 steals, proving to be another essential piece in the home team's defensive pressure.
But the big story once again was Rudy Gobert's work on Nikola Jokic. The French center repeated the level he showed in Game 2 and once again made every possession difficult for the three-time MVP. Jokic finished with 27 points and 15 rebounds, but needed 26 shots to make just 7 baskets—a night well below his usual efficiency.
Denver Nuggets also felt the absence of Aaron Gordon, sidelined by a calf injury. Without his usual energy on both ends of the floor, the team lacked physical presence and athleticism. Jamal Murray added 16 points, but shot just 5 of 17 from the field.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are in great form in this NBA series, growing stronger through defense and controlling the pace of play. After evening the series on the road, they now protect their home court and take control of the matchup.
With this victory, Minnesota leads Denver 2-1 and will look to extend their advantage in Game 4. The defending champions need to respond quickly if they don't want to find themselves in a very compromised position in these NBA playoffs.
