Mohamed Dabone has obtained Spanish nationality. According to reports, the Council of Ministers has approved the granting of nationality to the young Barcelona center at the request of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), one of the top prospects from the club's academy.
The news represents an important step in the player's situation. At 14 years old, with his 15th birthday coming in October, Dabone joined Barcelona in 2022 and has since become one of the most closely watched names in youth basketball development.
His growth has been remarkably rapid. He has shone in various youth tournaments, accumulated individual accolades, and has even participated in a friendly match with Barcelona's first team.
During the last season, he competed in the U22 League, averaging 13.3 points and 8.5 rebounds. He was also a key piece in the Next Generation EuroLeague title won by Barcelona's youth squad.
Looking ahead to the next season, Dabone could be in the first team's rotation, though he would also play an important role if he continues with the U22 team, especially following the departure of several teammates to the NCAA.
The naturalization, approved before he turns 16, also clarifies his future sporting framework. Without needing to accelerate any process, Spain will be able to count on him in youth categories if the moment arrives and the player continues his development.
For now, the most important thing remains just that: his development. Dabone is still a very young player with enormous potential and a trajectory that should be followed without rushing.
