Max Shulga Joins Real Madrid to Strengthen Perimeter

Real Madrid signs Ukrainian guard from American basketball to add playmaking, shooting, and valuable homegrown player status.

Real Madrid has completed the signing of Max Shulga for the 2026/27 season. The 24-year-old Ukrainian point guard-shooting guard, standing 1.93 meters tall, returns to Spain after completing his university education and playing his first professional season in the United States.

Shulga spent last season with the Boston Celtics, appearing in 11 NBA games. He saw more significant playing time with the Maine Celtics of the G League, where he averaged 15.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

The new Real Madrid player can play point guard or shooting guard and stands out for his ability to create from the pick-and-roll, facilitate, and threaten from beyond the arc. Additionally, his development period in Spain allows him to occupy a homegrown player roster spot, an important factor in building the white team's squad.

With his addition, Real Madrid brings youth and versatility to its backcourt for the new project led by head coach Pedro Martínez.
