Monbus Obradoiro Secures Hard-Fought Victory Over Movistar Estudiantes (89-79)

Monbus Obradoiro hosted the most complicated rival for promotion among Galician teams today. Movistar Estudiantes always field some of the best rosters in the competition despite failing to achieve their promotion goal. The slip-up against Tizona in Burgos forced the Galicians to win all remaining games to secure direct promotion. Before this clash against the Madrid side, Leyma Coruña has only one game left to play, while Epi's team needs three victories. The Compostelans began dominating the first quarter with great defensive activity. In the second quarter, the Estudiantes players showed they weren't coming to let the game slip away. Epi's team couldn't seal the game until the final minutes and Estudiantes fought until the end. Two finals remain for the Galicians.

Monbus Obradoiro's second unit and defense take advantage in the first quarter (26-14)

Monbus Obradoiro started the game looking for Dos Anjos as usual, but the Brazilian struggled to convert his first two attempts, drawing a foul on his third and opening the scoring with two free throws. While Salin and Granger missed their three-pointers, Westermann found Barrueta under the basket. Stumbris also scored the first for the visitors in the paint. The power forward repeated after an assist from Granger and tied the game. Dos Anjos broke the tie with his first dunk. Salin put the visitors ahead with a loose three-pointer and Galán changed the lead back with a two-pointer. Galán stole the ball and assisted Barrueta for the home team's first three-pointer. Nwogbo made his debut with a layup after a steal, but Barcello extended the lead with a great three-pointer (14-9). The American repeated after another good Santiago defense and forced a timeout from Toni Ten. The Madrid team turned the ball over again and Quintela took advantage. Nwogbo stopped the bleeding with a powerful dunk, but Barcello remained incisive and drew a foul, though he only made one of his free throws. Both teams entered a phase of poor shooting that prevented Estudiantes from getting closer and Obradoiro from pulling away. Kravic finally scored on a scrambled play and Nwogbo did the same. The Obradoiro center dominated the paint on offense again and the Estudiantes center drew a foul in this interior battle, making just one free throw. Brito found Kravic again, who led these minutes with 6 consecutive points. A block from Andersson closed out a great first quarter.

Movistar Estudiantes rally, but Barcello keeps Obradoiro ahead (45-41)

McGrew opened the second quarter scoring with his second free throw. Kravic remained unstoppable in the paint, but what could have been a great and-one ended in zero due to his lack of accuracy. Sergio García scored his first three-pointer and Kravic went to the bench with a shoulder issue. Garino's first three-pointer prompted a timeout from Epi (26-21). Westermann entered the court and added his first three-pointer. The timeout's effect was completed with a steal and dunk from Galán to restore the double-digit lead. McGrew reduced the deficit, but Westermann responded with his second three-pointer of the quarter. Garino took advantage of his two free throws after a hard foul from Galán. Now the crowd was unhappy with the referees' calls and the Argentine capitalized again for 34-27. Barrueta's great work on the offensive rebound gave the Galicians more options, but they didn't capitalize in these minutes. Nwogbo flexed and the and-one, missing the free throw. Estudiantes entered the bonus minutes after Obradoiro and Dos Anjos took advantage but only with a free throw. Granger found Niang for the dunk in poor minutes for Obradoiro. Barcello broke the streak with a good individual play, but neither team was comfortable with their offense in these minutes. A three-pointer from Stumbris led to another timeout from Epi seeing the lead cut to three. The instructions didn't work this time and Obradoiro lost the ball on offense and gave up a basket from Niang on defense. Barcello came to the rescue again in a great first half with 12 points scored. Quintela received a heavily protested technical foul and Salin executed the free throw. Another foul excited the crowd and sent Salin to the free throw line again. Quintela made up for it with a great individual play. After several misses from both teams, Barcello closed his great first half with his fourth three-pointer. A great play between Granger and Garino closed the first half with good vibes for the Madrid side.

The score tightens to the maximum in the third quarter (65-64)

Both teams started missing their shots and it was Niang who opened the scoring with an easy layup. Barcello returned to his role as offensive leader to score Obradoiro's first of the second half. Stumbris drew two free throws on the offensive rebound and made them both. Westermann found a clear play with Dos Anjos who dunked, exciting the Obradoiro crowd. The French point guard drew a foul and made both his free throws. The offensive rebound paid dividends for Estudiantes in the form of a Salin three-pointer. On the other end, Dos Anjos received multiple contacts until a foul was called and he made both free throws. Granger scored a three-pointer on an individual play that put his team just two points behind. The Estudiantes players continued putting their hands on the Obradoiro center and he surpassed double figures with two more makes. McGrew also drew a foul but only made one. Kravic returned to the court, confirming his shoulder issue wasn't serious. The Estudiantes power forward now added a three-pointer that tied the game at 55. Barrueta broke the tie with two free throws. Hugo López scored a free throw from an Andersson foul and Barrueta got the crowd on their feet with a three-pointer. Estudiantes' offensive rebound hurt again, but the Madrid side didn't finish their chances. Quintela went to the line and showed his effectiveness. McGrew was the best visitor in this period and scored 0 of 5. Epi's playbook worked thanks to Brito's quality, who opened his scoring with a talented three-pointer. Nwogbo got a great and-one on an individual play and the foul angered Caldeira.

Brito leads Obradoiro to victory again (89-79)

Brito opened the final quarter scoring, but Sergio García tied it with an and-one. Kravic scored on an offensive rebound. An exceptional defensive play and grit from Andersson ended in an assist for Kravic's dunk and prompted a timeout from Toni Ten. The intensity was maximum at this point and every rebound was a battle. Brito found Dos Anjos who dunked and put Obradoiro up 6. The Portuguese player led the way, reminiscent of Coruña's day, and put it at 76-67 with a three-pointer, prompting another visitor timeout. Granger found Stumbris for the three-pointer and Quintela responded with a good individual play. Granger repeated the play, this time for Garino who also scored from three. Brito answered with another high-quality long-range shot. The crowd called for a flagrant foul on a Galán steal, but the referees didn't grant it. Estudiantes now missed their shots and Brito drew a foul, taking all the offensive responsibility. Free throws put Obradoiro up ten with 2:23 remaining. Nwogbo was now the one calling for a flagrant foul, but had to settle for two free throws and only made the second. Munnings made a three-pointer from the stands that practically sealed the game. But McGrew wasn't willing and also scored from three. Westermann did close with another three-pointer, despite Ten calling timeout. Granger scored and now it was Epi's timeout, not wanting to leave any opening for a comeback.
