Fernando Zurbriggen (1.85 m, point guard, 1997, Santa Fe, Argentina) becomes the first signing of Movistar Estudiantes' new project. A versatile, competitive player with experience at the highest level who arrives after a solid career in both Argentina and Spain.
For Movistar Estudiantes' sports director, Íñigo de la Villa, Fernando's signing is key to building the new sporting project. "He represents exactly the type of player we want to build this team around," he explains.
De la Villa highlights his experience at the highest level, his competitiveness, and his understanding of basketball based on hard work, commitment, and team play. He also emphasizes that his versatility allows him to adapt to different game situations, though he believes his greatest value goes far beyond the court.
"He is a player who raises the competitive level of those around him, improves the locker room, and brings an energy that perfectly embodies the values we want for this club," says the sports director, who also praises his daily dedication: "Fernando is one of those players who leaves everything on the court, regardless of the moment or the opponent."
For De la Villa, his signing represents "an important step in building a group with personality, character, and hunger to achieve great objectives."
The Argentine point guard with Italian passport was developed at Club Banco Básquet in his hometown and made the jump to professional basketball with Obras Sanitarias, where he became one of the major references in Argentina's Liga Nacional. His excellent 2020-21 season earned him recognition as the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP), and he was also named best Under-23 player and best domestic player.
In the summer of 2021 he arrived in Spain to join Monbus Obradoiro, where he played three seasons in the Liga Endesa. He later began a stint in Primera FEB, a competition he knows well after playing for Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (2024-25) and Hestia Menorca (2025-26). With the Menorca club, he completed a standout season, establishing himself as one of the most complete players in the category, averaging 12.7 points and 19.1 rating in the 29 games he played.
He has also been an international with Argentina from youth categories until joining the senior national team in 2020.
Welcome, Fernando!
