NBA Finals: OG Anunoby Celebrates Knicks Championship: "We Did It, It Was Our Goal From the Start"

OG Anunoby spoke after the New York Knicks won the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. The wing, who was decisive throughout the series and won his second championship, discussed the journey from Abu Dhabi to San Antonio, the team's mental toughness, what it means to bring the title back to New York after more than half a century, and Jalen Brunson's historic performance in the clinching game.

Q. What's going through your head right now? Are you an NBA champion?

OG ANUNOBY: We did it. That was our goal from the start, back in September in Abu Dhabi. We went through a lot this season, a lot of ups and downs, but we just stayed there. We're resilient, mentally strong, and we won.

Q. On the same day, you won it seven years ago with Toronto. Would you consider this the luckiest day of your life?

OG ANUNOBY: It's a great day. What is it, June 13th?

Q. Yes.

OG ANUNOBY: June 13th is an incredible day.

Q. As someone from the United Kingdom who is very close to his Nigerian roots, what does it mean to show the world that you can reach the top of basketball even though you come from different backgrounds, and more than once? What does it mean to bring the title back to New York after more than half a century?

OG ANUNOBY: Simply that you can do anything you set your mind to. When someone tells you that you can't do something, that's when you can. Just be resilient, be mentally strong, and don't listen to them—believe in yourself.

Q. How was it in the locker room celebrating with this group?

OG ANUNOBY: Just happy for each other, for the whole organization. It's a long season. It started in September in Abu Dhabi and ended in June in San Antonio. We've been through a lot. We're a very united group, very tight, very mentally strong. Just happiness and emotion.

Q. This is your second championship. Is there a different feeling between the two?

OG ANUNOBY: In the last one I didn't get the opportunity to play, but it was also special. Both are very special. This one, New York hadn't won in 52, 53 years. I'm sure the fans are going crazy. It's very special to do it for New York.

Q. Brunson, 45 points in a game to close out the series on the road. What can you say about what he did and his performance tonight?

OG ANUNOBY: Resilient, mentally strong. No matter if we're down, he stayed in attack mode and played until the end. He's an incredible player and it showed. He showed the world tonight.

Q. I just want to know how many times you think you're going to watch your game-winning basket over the next week or so.

OG ANUNOBY: Right now I'm just going to celebrate with my teammates, my family, and my friends. I'm sure that one day I'll wake up in August, see a highlight of that, and feel proud.

I mean, I'm very proud of it. But right now I'm just excited, happy that we won.
