Olympiacos Targets Point Guard: Cole Anthony or David Jones García

Olympiacos has entered the market. Jean Montero's knee injury, which will sideline him for several months following surgery, has left the reigning EuroLeague champion without one of its key perimeter players. The Piraeus club already has two names on its agenda. According to journalist Matteo Andreani, Cole Anthony and David Jones García are currently their two main options.

Cole Anthony, from the NBA to Australia

Andreani reported on Tuesday that Olympiacos had set its sights on Cole Anthony. The New York-born point guard, 15th pick in the 2020 Draft, played five seasons with the Orlando Magic and one with the Milwaukee Bucks before signing this summer with Melbourne United in the Australian NBL. In the NBA, he averaged 12 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 367 games, and in Australia he has started as one of the league's top figures, with 23.6 points per game. His Melbourne contract includes an exit clause, which would facilitate the deal.

The second option depends on what happens in San Antonio. David Jones García, a 24-year-old Dominican small forward, holds a two-way contract with the Spurs, who renewed him in July, but he has barely seen playing time and Olympiacos would be monitoring a possible departure. Last season, before undergoing right ankle surgery in February, he played 11 games in the NBA and excelled in the G League with the Austin Spurs: 26.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. He previously shined in the NCAA with Memphis, where he averaged 21.8 points in his final college season.

His profile also has a connection to Montero himself: both are internationals for the Dominican Republic.

Olympiacos facing rotation problems

Montero's injury comes at a delicate moment for Georgios Bartzokas' team, which also cannot count on Tyler Dorsey, suspended for one month for his social media criticism, and has suffered other absences, such as Evan Fournier. Despite everything, Olympiacos shares the EuroLeague lead with a 7-2 record and hosts Crvena Zvezda this Friday in one of the standout games of matchday 10.
