jul 28 2026Russell Westbrook has appeared on the EuroLeague radar. According to the latest reports, Panathinaikos, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Dubai Basketball would be interested in attempting to sign the American point guard, one of the most high-profile names that could still move the market.
If it happens, the move would be an earthquake for European basketball. Westbrook, 37, just completed the 2025/26 season with the Sacramento Kings, where he averaged 15.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists before becoming a free agent.
We're not talking about just any player. Westbrook has been an NBA MVP, a nine-time All-Star and one of the most explosive point guards in recent league history. His arrival in Europe would represent a massive leap in media impact, though it would also raise many sporting questions.
Panathinaikos has financial muscle, competitive pressure and a structure prepared to compete for everything. Hapoel Tel Aviv has long been associated with big NBA names and previously made moves around Westbrook, though the club's camp cooled on that possibility at the time. Dubai, meanwhile, has become one of the most aggressive projects in the European market, with Xavi Pascual at the helm and clear ambition to shake up the landscape.
The big question mark is the player himself. Westbrook could still have NBA market value, but if he decides to cross the Atlantic, his signing would require building a lot around him: high pace, ball in his hands, spacing and a context that embraces both his strengths and his risks.
