Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade has decided to continue with Joan Peñarroya as head coach. According to Mozzart Sport, the Serbian club has reached an agreement with the Spanish coach to extend his contract through the end of the 2027/28 season.
The renewal represents significant backing for Peñarroya, who arrived at Partizan mid-season following the surprising departure of Zeljko Obradovic, a historic figure for the club and European basketball. In his initial agreement, the Catalan coach had signed through the end of the 2026/27 season, though the club's management already had intentions of binding him through 2028 at that time.
At that moment, Peñarroya preferred not to close a longer extension and left the door open for future negotiations. Now, despite the sporting difficulties the team has faced in recent months, Partizan has chosen to reinforce its confidence in the coach and secure his continuity in the medium term.
The context has not been easy. Peñarroya took over in a delicate situation and the team suffered several heavy defeats during his first months. In the EuroLeague, Partizan finished in 15th place with a record of 16-22, far from the expectations generated at the start of the season.
This was compounded by an unexpected elimination in the Serbian league semifinals and a demanding situation in the ABA League final, where Partizan trails Dubai after losing the first game of the series.
Even so, the extension through 2028 marks a clear commitment to stability. Partizan appears determined to sustain Peñarroya's project beyond immediate results, with the intention of rebuilding the team from a line of continuous work and recovering competitiveness in the EuroLeague.
