Real Madrid has secured its new head coach. According to Javier Maestro, the club has closed the deal to bring in Pedro Martínez, current coach of Valencia Basket, and will pay one million euros to release him from his contract.
The operation accelerated over the weekend following initial contacts with the Catalan coach. The agreement is pending official announcement, but Valencia already knows that Pedro Martínez will not continue leading the team despite having a contract for next season.
The coach arrives at Real Madrid after recently winning the ACB with Valencia Basket, a success that has further strengthened his candidacy to take charge of the white team's bench. According to the same report, Pedro Martínez will earn 1.2 million euros net per season in his new role.
The arrival of the coach will also mean the departure of Sergio Scariolo, who has been summoned to Valdebebas on Tuesday to be informed of his dismissal. Real Madrid thus opens a new chapter on its bench with a coach of extensive experience and proven track record in Spanish basketball.
