Ricky Rubio Wins May MVP Award

Asisa Joventut's point guard capped off the regular season in style, earning the first monthly MVP award of his Liga Endesa career after posting a 24.2 rating average and a perfect 5-0 record for his team in May

Ricky Rubio enters the playoffs in his finest form. The point guard from El Masnou delivered a brilliant month that earned him May MVP honors, averaging 24.2 rating credits per game with a 5-0 record for his Asisa Joventut across the five games in which the point guard participated.

The green-and-black player kicked off May in a two-part matchup against Unicaja, following the postponement to halftime of a contest in which he recorded 11 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds, 6 fouls drawn and a 20 rating in just 17 minutes in Badalona's victory.

In Matchday 30, in another important road win at La Laguna Tenerife, Rubio was in top form with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal and 5 fouls drawn, plus a +16 in 24 and a half minutes.

Ricky didn't slow down in MoraBanc Andorra's visit, posting another 28 rating credits. In just 19:34 on the court, the point guard tallied 23 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 foul drawn, with a +13 in the Plus/Minus.

The Catalan continued his excellent streak in Matchday 32, raiding league-leading Real Madrid's court with another 27 rating credits in 24:27, recording 21 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 6 fouls drawn.

Finally, Rubio capped off his magical May with another solid performance against Recoletas Salud San Pablo Burgos, finishing with 10 points, 5 assists, 3 steals and 4 fouls drawn.

Whether by coincidence or consequence, in the only green-and-black loss all month, on the road at Bàsquet Girona, Ricky didn't play, so his May record is spotless: 5 wins and 0 losses!

Overall, Ricky Rubio averaged 16.4 points in May, shooting 90% from the free throw line (35/39), 52% from two-point range (13/25) and 50% from three-point range (7/14). He also added 5.8 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 4.4 fouls drawn, with 24.2 rating credits in just over 21 minutes per game.

Although Luka Bozic (32.7) and Mario Hezonja (27.2) posted higher ratings, their teams' negative records this month (1-5 and 1-3 respectively, requiring a minimum 50% win percentage to qualify for nomination) make Ricky Rubio the May MVP for the first time in his Liga Endesa career.

This marks the first monthly MVP award of his Liga Endesa career, adding to his Breakout Player honor from 2006-07 and his Best Point Guard and All-Star Team selections in 2007-08 and 2009-10. This is his moment!
