In this context, two veteran names have emerged: Russell Westbrook and Victor Oladipo. According to Jake Fischer, the Kings are evaluating the arrival of a point guard with extensive league experience, and among the options are both a potential return of Westbrook and a possible signing of Oladipo.
Westbrook's case is the most straightforward. He already played for Sacramento last season, was a regular starter, and still put up solid numbers: 15.2 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.4 rebounds in 64 games. He later declined his player option for 2026/27 and remains on the market.
His return would have a clear purpose. Westbrook wouldn't arrive to be the face of the project, but rather to bring pace, character, and a strong voice in a young locker room. He can also help Acuff on a day-to-day basis, though his fit always requires adjustments to spacing, ball movement, and roles.
Oladipo is a more uncertain bet. He hasn't played in the NBA since the 2022/23 season with the Miami Heat, but he's still seeking an opportunity. Sacramento could view him as a low-cost veteran if he's physically capable of competing.
The Kings are coming off a brutal season, with 22 wins and 60 losses, far removed from the team that returned to the playoffs in 2023 after a long drought. Now they're in a different phase: less urgency to sell immediate hope and more need to build properly around their young players.
Westbrook and Oladipo wouldn't change Sacramento's ceiling on their own, but they could fit into a roster that needs experience, leadership, and competitive presence. The question is how much each has left and what role they'd be willing to accept.
