Santi Aldama's Mavericks Debut Draws Near

Santi Aldama's wait is almost over. According to NBA Maniacs, the Canary Islands power forward has fully recovered from right knee surgery performed last spring, and the Dallas Mavericks have listed him as questionable for tonight's game in San Antonio. If he plays, it will be his debut with the Texas franchise, to which he was traded in early July.

A new challenge after five years in Memphis

Aldama leaves behind a chapter in which he went from being a draft prospect to a key piece of the Grizzlies. In 2025 he signed a three-year, $52.5 million extension, and last season, before his injury, he posted his best numbers: 14 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists, with 35% from three-point range. He has accumulated 278 regular season games and 10 playoff games in the NBA.

In Dallas, a different context awaits him, on a team with greater ambition. He will share the locker room with Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg, and his versatility to play power forward and center while spacing the floor fits a roster that needs interior depth. His role will depend on Dusty May, the Mavericks head coach.

Two Spaniards in Dallas

Aldama's arrival makes the Mavericks the NBA team with the most Spanish presence. The roster also includes Sergio de Larrea, who started the season with significant minutes, including 21 points against the Spurs themselves, until a right knee sprain sidelined him from the rotation. With both healthy, Dallas could put a Spanish point guard and interior player on the court together.

The team arrives at the San Antonio game after losing at home to the Kings, who secured their first win of the season. Aldama's return would give them another option in the paint, which has been affected by injuries.
