Twin Swap in Dallas: Jorge Out, Guillermo Díaz-Graham In

Por ·

The Dallas Mavericks made one of the most curious moves of the preseason. On Thursday, they released Jorge Díaz-Graham, who had debuted against the Pelicans the night before with 5 points and 3 rebounds, and just four hours later signed his twin brother, Guillermo, to an Exhibit 10 contract. Guillermo's stay was even shorter: on Friday, the Mavericks also released him.

Behind the name shuffle lies a clear logic. The Exhibit 10 contract allows a player released by the franchise to earn a bonus if he joins the team's G League affiliate. All signs point to that being the destination for both: the Texas Legends, who selected Jorge with the No. 1 pick and Guillermo with the No. 3 pick in the G League international draft this summer.

Together Again

If their arrival in Frisco is confirmed, the Canary Islands twins will share a locker room once more. They played together for three seasons at the University of Pittsburgh and separated for their final year in the NCAA: Jorge went to Oregon State and Guillermo to San Francisco. They reunited this summer in the Summer League with the Mavericks.

Guillermo, 2.13 meters tall, finished his college career with 5.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 33 games with San Francisco. His best year was the previous one at Pittsburgh, averaging 6.2 points and 5 rebounds as a regular starter. The Mavericks, who close out the preseason this Friday against the Hawks and begin the regular season on Wednesday in Houston, have two other Spanish players on their roster: Sergio de Larrea and Santi Aldama.
