The American center with European experience becomes the new player for the Canary Islands club for the upcoming season
La Laguna Tenerife has secured the services of Vince Hunter for the upcoming season. The new Canary Islands player, a 6'8" American center, arrives from Lokomotiv Kuban of the Russian VTB United League, where last season he averaged 11 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.
Vincent Shamar Hunter (Detroit, Michigan, 5/8/1994) arrives at the Liga Endesa after a significant career at several European clubs, including a Basketball Champions League (BCL) title during his time at AEK Athens 17/18, a team with which he also won the 2019 Intercontinental Cup and where he became the leading scorer of the BCL itself in 18/19, with 18 points per game, and was also named to the tournament's 'All-Star Five'.
Beyond his numbers in the domestic leagues of Greece, Italy, France, and Russia, Hunter's European resume includes 55 games in the EuroCup, 35 in the BCL, and eight in the EuroLeague.
The new Canary Islands big man spent his NCAA stint (2013-15) at the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP Miners) before playing in the NBA G-League with the Reno Bighorns (2015-16), before making his first jump to Europe and signing with Panathinaikos 2016-17.
From there, he played that same year for Avtodor Saratov, took a break to return for one year to the United States and play the 2017-18 season with the Memphis Grizzlies G-League franchise (he played four games with the NBA roster); and resumed his European career defending the colors of AEK Athens, Virtus Bologna (2019-21), Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 (2021-22), Unics Kazan (2021-22), Zenit Saint Petersburg (2023-25), and Lokomotiv Kuban (2025-26).
Along the way, among other merits, in addition to the aforementioned achievements in the BCL with AEK Athens, he led the Greek league in steals in the 2018-19 season and was named 'Defensive Player of the Year' in the VTB United League two seasons ago.
