Žalgiris confirmed their strong form in Istanbul. A week after defeating Partizan in Kaunas, Tomas Masiulis's team secured a comfortable victory against Beşiktaş, who came off a comeback win in Bologna but never found their offensive rhythm this time. The Lithuanians improve to 6-4 and solidify their position in the play-in zone.
The second quarter makes the difference
Beşiktaş started well, with three-pointers from Anthony Brown and Eugene Omoruyi, and stayed close throughout the first quarter (17-20). An and-one from Omoruyi brought them even closer (20-22) at the start of the second, but Žalgiris responded with a 0-10 run that gave them their first double-digit lead. With their interior game punishing the Turkish defense, the Lithuanians reached halftime up 14 (31-45).
A 25-point lead
After the break, Beşiktaş continued to struggle finding open shots, and Žalgiris capitalized on every turnover and missed attack to pull away. A free throw from Arnas Ulanovas at the 28-minute mark made it 39-62, and a basket from Tubelis in the paint extended the lead to 25 at the start of the fourth quarter (44-69). Beşiktaş made the scoreline more respectable with an 11-0 run late in the game, including a three-pointer from Brown for 55-69, but the game was already decided.
Tubelis led Žalgiris with 14 points, followed by Marius Grigonis (13) and Valančiūnas, who recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
For Beşiktaş, Omoruyi (17) and Wenyen Gabriel (14 points and 7 rebounds) were the only ones who maintained their level.
