Zalgiris Kaunas wants to add firepower to its perimeter and has set its sights on one of EuroLeague's most aggressive scorers. According to BasketNews, the Lithuanian club is close to reaching an agreement with Carsen Edwards, an American shooting guard who competed last season with Virtus Bologna.
The move would carry significant weight in Kaunas' perimeter reconstruction. Following Sylvain Francisco's departure to ASVEL Villeurbanne, Zalgiris needed to recover scoring, playmaking, and ball-handling creation. Edwards fits that profile perfectly: a player small in stature but explosive, with excellent shooting range and accustomed to handling high offensive volume.
His 2025/26 EuroLeague season confirmed that his scoring ability remains one of the most dangerous on the continent. With Virtus Bologna, he averaged 17.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in just over 25 minutes per night. It wasn't just a matter of volume: Edwards proved once again that he can take over games in short stretches, as he did against ASVEL, when he scored 36 points in less than 30 minutes of play.
Zalgiris would thus acquire a player capable of changing a game's pace from the opening possession. Edwards doesn't need much to catch fire: he's a threat in transition, punishes off pick-and-roll, can shoot from deep range, and forces defenses to stay constantly aware of him. That offensive gravity could be key for a team redesigning its perimeter with names like Saben Lee, Nigel Williams-Goss, Maodo Lo, Marius Grigonis, and Dovydas Giedraitis.
The interest makes even more sense looking at the player's cumulative impact over the last two seasons. In the 2024/25 season with FC Bayern Munich, he was EuroLeague's leading scorer with 20.4 points per game and was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team. Between that season and last, only Sasha Vezenkov and Kendrick Nunn have scored more points than him in Europe's top competition.
There's also a marked three-point threat component. Edwards has been one of the players with the highest three-point production in recent EuroLeague play and already delivered a historic performance in April 2025, when he made eight three-pointers and scored 26 points in a single quarter against Maccabi Tel Aviv, both competition records.
His arrival would mean more than just a marquee signing for Zalgiris. It would be the addition of a proven scorer with NBA experience, European pedigree, and the ability to shoulder offensive responsibilities from day one. In a market where difference-making points come at a premium, Kaunas is moving to secure one of the most explosive profiles available.
