What Does History Tell Us About 1-1 Ties in the ACB Playoff Finals?

The 1-1 tie has occurred 15 times in a best-of-five ACB Playoff Final series, and historical precedent gives a slight edge to the team that started the series without home-court advantage, winning the championship in nine instances (60%)

In 15 previous occasions, a best-of-five Playoff Final series has reached the third game tied 1-1, and the historical record slightly favors the team that started without home-court advantage.

Of these 15 previous series that reached the third game tied, nine (60%) ended with victory for the team that started the series without home-court advantage, compared to six wins for those teams that began the Playoff Final in front of their home crowd (40%).

If the team that started the series at home wins the championship, history shows it will do so in a fifth game, as in five of the six seasons when the home-court advantage team won after a 1-1 tie, the final series result was 3-2.

That sole instance in which the series was decided in the fourth game occurred in the 2017-18 season, when Real Madrid defeated Baskonia after losing the first game and tying the series in the second. The white team won both games played at the Buesa Arena, thus claiming the championship trophy.

However, of the nine cases in which the team without home-court advantage won the title after a 1-1 tie, in three they did so by a 2-3 result, while in six the result was 1-3.
