Bennedict Mathurin is gaining prominence in the NBA market. According to Marc Stein, the Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans have emerged as the two teams most interested in the wing, who is a restricted free agent following his stint with the Los Angeles Clippers.
His contractual situation shapes the entire operation. As a restricted free agent, the Clippers retain the right to match any offer, meaning any attempt by the Bulls or Pelicans would require either an offer difficult to match or a negotiated trade framework.
The 24-year-old Mathurin comes off a 2025/26 season split between the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers. With the Los Angeles squad, he finished the season appearing in 54 games total and averaged 17.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists, shooting 43% from the field, 31.5% from three-point range and 86.9% from the free throw line.
Chicago is seeking young, athletic talent to bolster the perimeter. Mathurin fits the profile in terms of age, scoring ability and growth potential, though his inconsistency from beyond the arc remains an area to develop.
New Orleans, meanwhile, had already shown interest in the player during the season. The Pelicans need more scoring on the wings and a player capable of attacking the rim, running the floor and producing without always relying on the system.
For now, there is no agreement or closed negotiations, but his name is on the table. Mathurin was traded to the Clippers in February as part of the deal that sent Ivica Zubac to Indiana, and his future has remained open since then.
The Clippers, according to various reports, would prefer to retain him if they find a reasonable formula, though they also wouldn't rule out facilitating a potential sign-and-trade if the player ends up leaving.
Mathurin is not an established star, but he is an attractive piece: young, aggressive, with scoring in his hands and still room to take another step. The Bulls and Pelicans are already paying attention.
