Chimezie Metu Heads to Galatasaray

Chimezie Metu's future will be in Turkey. According to BasketNews, the American power forward with Nigerian passport is finalizing an agreement to become the new player for Galatasaray Istanbul, one of the main contenders for the Basketball Champions League title.

Metu, 29 years old and 2.08 meters tall, comes off a notable end to the season at Dreamland Gran Canaria, where he arrived after recovering from the serious Achilles tendon injury he suffered in March 2025. In the Liga Endesa, he played 12 games, averaging 14.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 26 minutes per game, shooting 50% from the field and 36.5% from three-point range.

Before his time at Gran Canaria, the big man made his EuroLeague debut with FC Barcelona during the 2024/25 season, leaving very good impressions. In the top continental competition, he averaged 11.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 11.8 efficiency rating in 20 minutes per game, standing out for his athletic ability and versatility on both sides of the court.

Trained in the NBA, Metu played 260 regular season games between the San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons, averaging 6.8 points and 3.8 rebounds.
Now, after attracting the interest of several EuroLeague teams, the former Barcelona and Gran Canaria player appears to have chosen Galatasaray's project to definitively relaunch his career in Europe.
