Crvena Zvezda Close to Signing Christian Koloko

Christian Koloko is headed to Belgrade. According to La Central ACB, Crvena Zvezda is advancing in negotiations with the Cameroonian center and is close to finalizing his signing. Koloko became a free agent in early October when the New Orleans Pelicans released him before the regular season, and several European teams have since expressed interest in him.

One of them was Kosner Baskonia. El Correo reported days ago that the Vitoria-based club had made him an offer and that his arrival was a priority for Paolo Galbiati. An attractive signing, moreover, because his Cameroonian passport allows him to play as a European player in the Liga Endesa thanks to the Cotonou Agreement. Galbiati's dismissal and the arrival of Velimir Perasovic have changed the scenario in Vitoria, and Zvezda appears to have moved ahead.

Koloko's arrival would make sense for Zvezda, which has had physical issues in the paint early this season. Ebuka Izundu missed the last matchday with an ankle sprain and Johnathan Motley has been sidelined since gameday 4. The Cameroonian, standing 2.11 meters tall, is a defensive center and rim protector who has struggled to establish himself in the NBA. Since the Raptors selected him with the 33rd pick in the 2022 draft, he has played for Toronto, the Lakers, Memphis, Atlanta, and New Orleans. Last season he played 27 games spread across three teams, averaging 13 minutes per game. Zvezda, which has a 3-2 record in the EuroLeague, hosts Paris Basketball this Friday.
