Ja Morant Back on the Market as Pelicans Position Themselves

Ja Morant's future with Memphis is uncertain once again. According to Sam Amick, the New Orleans Pelicans are among the teams best positioned to pursue a trade for the point guard, though the Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwolves are also monitoring his situation closely.

Morant is going through the most delicate moment of his career. Far from the level that made him one of the NBA's emerging superstars, his market value has been affected by off-court issues, recent inconsistency, and a significant contract: $42.2 million next season and $44.5 million in 2027/28.

For the Pelicans, the move would make sense during a summer in which the franchise appears willing to move important pieces around Zion Williamson. Morant's arrival would force a restructuring of the project and could directly impact the future of Dejounte Murray.

Memphis, meanwhile, faces a complex decision: part with its greatest talent or continue waiting for a return to form that hasn't materialized. Interest exists, but the price, salary, and risk that accompany Morant mean any negotiation is advancing cautiously.
