James Harden Clutch Performance Keeps Cleveland Cavaliers Alive Against Detroit Pistons, 116-109 [2-1]

CLEVELAND. The Cleveland Cavaliers responded in the Eastern Conference semifinals with a 116-109 victory over the Detroit Pistons in an intense Game 3 of the NBA playoffs. Donovan Mitchell led the way with 35 points and 10 rebounds, while James Harden delivered crucial plays down the stretch to prevent an 0-3 series deficit.

After suffering two painful losses in Detroit, Cleveland finally found answers in the clutch. Max Strus made the play that changed the game with a crucial steal on a Cade Cunningham inbound pass, before hitting the layup that put the Cavaliers ahead for good with 2:28 remaining.

The victory allows Cleveland Cavaliers to cut the series deficit to 2-1 and regain confidence heading into Game 4, which will be played again in Ohio.

Detroit Pistons came out showing personality once again and maintaining the high competitive level they displayed in the first two games. Cade Cunningham led the visiting offense again and finished with the second triple-double of his playoff career with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Tobias Harris added 21 points for a Pistons team that dominated several stretches of the game and maintained parity for most of the night. The game featured 11 lead changes and was decided only in the final minutes.

Cleveland, however, found much more offensive stability around Donovan Mitchell this time. The Cavaliers star again shouldered much of the scoring responsibility and also reached 2,000 playoff points in just his 73rd postseason game, matching one of the fastest records among active players.

Jarrett Allen also maintained a strong interior presence with 18 points, while James Harden responded after criticism for his turnovers and poor decisions in the closing moments of the first two games.

The decisive moment came with less than three minutes to play. With the game wide open, Max Strus anticipated Cade Cunningham's sideline pass to Daniss Jenkins near midcourt, stole the ball, and raced down the court to hit the layup for 106-104.

The play completely changed the emotional momentum of the game and sparked a series of consecutive Detroit turnovers. Cade Cunningham lost three straight possessions in the crucial stretch, finishing the night with eight total turnovers.

James Harden then seized the offensive spotlight. First he connected on a step-back from mid-range to extend the lead, then added a floater after a Cunningham dunk, and finally essentially sealed the game with a three-pointer from the corner with 25 seconds left, punishing Tobias Harris's defense to make it 113-109.

Detroit still tried to respond with a Cunningham three-pointer, but the Cleveland Cavaliers didn't let the victory slip away. Additionally, the home defense much better limited the Pistons' offensive options in the final possessions.

The loss ends Detroit Pistons' five-game winning streak in these NBA playoffs, though the Michigan team still maintains control of the series with a 2-1 advantage.

Cleveland Cavaliers will now look to tie the series in Game 4 before returning to Detroit, while the Pistons attempt to regain emotional control after a game ending marked by turnovers and James Harden's clutch awakening.
