The Golden State Warriors have agreed to a contract extension with Kristaps Porzingis to keep the Latvian center with the franchise. Porzingis will sign a two-year, $40 million deal with a player option for the second season, keeping him in the Bay Area through at least the 2027-28 season, according to Shams Charania.
Porzingis arrived in Golden State last February and, although physical issues limited his availability, he delivered strong performances whenever he was on the court. In the 15 games he played with the Warriors, he averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 blocks, also providing his usual perimeter threat thanks to his ability to space the floor from the center position.
The California franchise believes that if it can maintain the Latvian's physical health, he can become an important piece in the project. The deal prevents Porzingis from reaching free agency and provides stability to a frontcourt that will also feature veteran Al Horford, who was recently re-signed.
At 30 years old, Porzingis will continue wearing the Warriors jersey with the goal of regaining the consistency that injuries have prevented him from finding in recent seasons. His combination of size, outside shooting and rim protection remains a highly valued profile in the NBA when injuries cooperate.
