NBA: Minnesota Timberwolves Eliminate Denver Nuggets Behind Dominant Jaden McDaniels Performance (110-98)
MINNEAPOLIS. The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Denver Nuggets 110-98 in Game 6 of the NBA playoffs and secured their spot in the Western Conference semifinals thanks to a dominant performance by Jaden McDaniels. The small forward led Minnesota with 32 points and 10 rebounds in a night when the Timberwolves overcame a serious injury crisis to close out another intense series against Denver.
Without Anthony Edwards, Donte DiVincenzo, and Ayo Dosunmu, all sidelined by injury, the Minnesota Timberwolves deployed a much more physical starting lineup and found unexpected answers from the opening tip. Terrence Shannon Jr., a surprise starter, provided energy and offensive aggression with 24 points, while the interior presence of Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle, and Naz Reid dominated Denver in the paint.
The physical difference was evident throughout the game. The Minnesota Timberwolves completely controlled the area near the basket with a commanding 64-40 advantage in paint points and also controlled the boards decisively (50-33), two factors that shaped the game from the opening minutes.
The Denver Nuggets tried to stay afloat through Nikola Jokic, who once again posted extraordinary numbers with 28 points, 10 assists, and 9 rebounds. However, Minnesota's defense once again severely limited the impact of Jamal Murray. McDaniels constantly pursued the Canadian point guard around the perimeter and held him to just 12 points on a poor 4-of-17 shooting performance.
Cameron Johnson was Denver's best offensive complement with 27 points and helped keep the Nuggets alive from beyond the arc, but neither the three-pointers nor Jokic's production were enough to match the physical and emotional intensity of the Timberwolves.
Minnesota also found constant momentum at the Target Center. Every defensive play, every rebound, and every transition fueled a team that compensated for the absence of perimeter creation with energy, effort, and collective defense.
The decisive stretch came in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. With Denver trying to close the gap, Terrence Shannon Jr. converted a three-point play with 1:43 remaining to extend the lead to six. Shortly after, Jaden McDaniels appeared again with the clinching basket: a mid-range jump shot that made it 103-96 with 1:06 left and sealed the game.
Defense was once again the great weapon for the Minnesota Timberwolves in these NBA playoffs. Rudy Gobert constantly bothered Jokic in the paint with his length and anticipation, while McDaniels became the absolute leader on both sides of the floor in one of the best postseason performances of his career.
The elimination represents another tough blow for the Denver Nuggets, who, after winning the NBA championship in 2023, have failed to recover the depth and consistency needed around Nikola Jokic to dominate the Western Conference again.
The Minnesota Timberwolves, the sixth seed in the West, will now begin the conference semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs next Monday, after completing one of the most competitive and intense first-round series of these NBA playoffs.
