Txus Vidorreta Departs as Head Coach of La Laguna Tenerife

The Basque coach and the Canary Islands club have reached an agreement to part ways after the head coach communicated his intention to exit the contract that bound both parties until 2028

Txus Vidorreta and CB Canarias have reached an agreement to separate their paths, after the Basque coach communicated to the club his intention to exit the contract that bound both parties until 2028. Both announced this officially to the media today in an emotional press conference held at Santiago Martín.

The Canary Islands club thanks Txus for the enormous work carried out during his ten seasons as head coach, having been one of the main architects of an era full of successes and barriers overcome; while wishing him all the best in his personal and professional future.

Beyond the numbers, Vidorreta's figure has been closely linked to the consolidation of the club in the elite and to countless milestones that have taken Tenerife basketball to its highest point of all time. In his ten campaigns on the Island, spread across two different stints, Txus accumulated a total of 530 official games coached, with a record of 339 wins, one tie, and 190 losses across all competitions.

With him at the helm of the bench, La Laguna Tenerife forged very recognizable and praised hallmarks throughout national and international basketball. A dynasty of successes with its own distinctive and unmistakable seal, whose legacy will be unforgettable.

During his time on the Island, CB Canarias won two Basketball Champions League (BCL) titles in the 2017 Tenerife and 2022 Bilbao editions; and two Intercontinental Cups, both held on the Island; as well as being runners-up in the Copa del Rey in Badalona 2023 and reaching the Liga Endesa semifinals three times.

The breakdown of his enormous trophy cabinet as head coach also includes two silver medals and one bronze in the BCL, a competition whose final phase, whether Final Four or Final Eight, he reached on nine occasions to become the coach with the most games (156) and most wins (114) in the tournament's history.

To that must be added that he reached the Liga Endesa finals series on eight occasions, including the Exceptional Final Phase during the pandemic, and managed to qualify the Canary Islands team for the Copa del Rey nine times, the last eight consecutively, with one final—the aforementioned Badalona—and up to six semifinals.

A remarkable trajectory leading CB Canarias to the most glorious heights of its history. An era comes to an end and leaves an indelible mark.
