jul 21 2026FC Barcelona and American player Stanley Umude, who holds Nigerian nationality, have agreed to a contract that will keep them together until June 30, 2028. The 27-year-old, 6'6" wing, who can also play shooting guard, arrives at the Club to provide versatility on the perimeter.
This will be his first European experience, after developing as a professional with a total of 135 games between the G League (86) and the NBA (49), where he debuted with the Detroit Pistons, with whom he played the majority of his games, and also played for the Milwaukee Bucks, with whom he won the NBA Cup championship (2024). Finally, he completed a brief stint with the San Antonio Spurs.
Born in Portland, Oregon on April 12, 1999, the American will arrive in Barcelona to provide versatility on the defensive end, with good mobility in switches, intensity in one-on-one situations, and an athletic profile that allows him to run the floor and score with authority, especially in transition. He is a player who has constantly improved his three-point shooting and exploits the catch-and-shoot well. In short, a versatile player with the ability to adapt his role to the team's needs. Given his Nigerian passport, the player will compete as a non-EU player.
Successful Early Steps in the NCAA
His beginnings were at Earl Warren High School in San Antonio, before starting his college career, first at South Dakota (2017-21) and later at Arkansas (2021-22). His statistics with the Coyotes stand out during the 2020/21 season, when he surpassed 1,500 points, entering the University's history and becoming one of the top 10 scorers of the season in the NCAA.
Development in the G League and NBA Debut
Although he was not drafted in 2022, the Detroit Pistons brought him in to play in the Summer League. At that time he was not part of the team, but Umude played in the G League with the affiliated team, the Motor City Cruise, averaging 15.4 points, 38.5% three-point shooting, 4.8 rebounds and one assist. His performances earned him the opportunity to debut in the NBA against the Boston Celtics on February 15, 2023, scoring his first points. The reward came the following season, when he finally received his first standard contract. He played 24 games, averaging 5.3 points, 45.3% three-point shooting and 2.1 rebounds.
NBA Cup with the Milwaukee Bucks
In July 2024 he changed franchises and joined Antetokounmpo's Bucks, with whom he signed a two-way contract. In the G League, with the Wisconsin Herd, he played 10 games, averaging 18.7 points, 43.3% three-point shooting, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists. However, what he will remember most, beyond the 22 games played in the regular season with the Bucks, is the achievement of being part of the NBA Cup championship team, even if in a limited role.
The Final Stop Before Landing in Barcelona
During the last season before crossing the Atlantic to Barcelona, Umude stood out mainly with the Austin Spurs, where he played an important role and appeared in a total of 32 games, averaging 16.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 32.1 minutes on the court. With the San Antonio Spurs he only played a couple of games.
