James Wiseman in Unicaja's Sights

Unicaja continues to monitor the market to complete its frontcourt. According to Olga Lorente, the Málaga club has James Wiseman in its orbit, a 2.13-meter American center and the 2nd pick in the 2020 Draft.

If the move materializes, it would complete a heavyweight position in the roster. Unicaja already has Willy Hernangómez, David Kravish, and Yannick Nzosa for the center position, so Wiseman would arrive to add even more size, physicality, and presence near the rim.

The name carries weight. Wiseman was selected by Golden State Warriors just behind Anthony Edwards in that 2020 draft, but his NBA career never quite stabilized. Injuries and lack of continuity gradually moved him away from the role expected of him in his early years.

He spent his last season in the Indiana Pacers orbit, with a reduced role in the NBA. According to the league's official statistics, he played 24 games in 2025/26, averaging 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14.5 minutes. In the G League he had more playing time, averaging 16.5 points.

For Unicaja it would be a risky bet, but also one with significant upside. Wiseman would not arrive as a player established in Europe, but as an interior with physical attributes that are extremely difficult to find: height, wingspan, mobility, and the ability to finish above the rim.

The key would be his adaptation. The Liga Endesa demands basketball IQ, defensive focus, and consistency in systems where physicality alone is not enough. If Unicaja moves forward, the signing would have a clear message: adding a big center, still young and with room to relaunch his career in Europe.

For now there is no deal in place. There is interest and a name on the table. But if it happens, it would be one of the most eye-catching moves of the summer in the ACB.
