Mitchell Robinson Leaves Knicks for Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics have secured an important addition to strengthen their interior game. According to Shams Charania, Mitchell Robinson has agreed to a three-year deal with the Massachusetts franchise worth $47.4 million, with a player option in the third year.

Robinson arrives from the New York Knicks, where he was a key piece on the historic championship team. In the 2025/26 season, he averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game, with a spectacular 72.3% field goal percentage—a number that perfectly summarizes his profile: a finisher near the rim, offensive rebounder, and player of maximum efficiency in the paint.

His signing gives Boston a physical center, dominant on the boards and capable of protecting the rim. He doesn't arrive to assume much offensive volume, but rather to provide interior presence, second-chance opportunities, and defensive solidity to a roster that needed to strengthen the paint.

For the Knicks, his departure means losing one of the players most identified with the recent project and an important piece of the championship. For the Celtics, meanwhile, it's a direct move to gain toughness, size, and experience in the paint.
